You Are Not Your Past

We all carry stories from our past—some inspiring, some painful. Yet it’s important to remember: your past is something you have, not what you are. Too often, people identify themselves with old wounds, mistakes, or roles they once played. But who you truly are is far greater and far freer than the experiences that shaped you.

In many of my life-coaching and emotional healing sessions I incorporate the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. In this approach our personality is seen as a collection of “parts”. Some parts may hold pain from childhood. Others may step in as protectors—helping us cope, avoid hurt, or strive for success. These parts are not bad; they were created to help you survive. But they are not the whole of you. At your core, IFS teaches, there is a Self—calm, compassionate, curious, and wise. That Self is never damaged, no matter what your past holds.

When you learn to relate to your parts with understanding rather than judgment, you begin to heal. You can thank your protective patterns for their service, while also gently guiding them to loosen their grip. This opens space for the real you—the Self—to lead your life.

You are not your past. You are not your wounds. You are the Self who has the strength to bring light, healing, and new choices into your future.

If this speaks to you, I invite you to explore personal coaching or emotional healing sessions with me. Together we will uncover the freedom of living from your true Self.
